My Readings (Some of Them Anyway)

Lately I went back to the library and did the usual return-pick up thing.   So, first step: Return old books .   Second step: Check out new books.   Third step: Read new books.  Check, check, and check.  Now I'm on the fourth step.   Fourth step: Blog about books.   Now, I'm not gonna blog about every single book I got, but I'll try to do most of them.  In the meantime, this post is so you know what I'm reading and am to lazy to actually have in a separate post. Recently, I just finished two books: The Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, and the sequel  Days of Blood and Starlight.   These books are about a war between chimera and seraphim.  The chimera see the seraphim as monsters and the seraphim return the favor.  Now this isn't like and angels and devils sort of thing, there's no heaven and hell.  The main character is Karou, a human girl who works for a chimera named Brimstone.  Brimstone trades peopl...

13 Gifts by Wendy Mass

13 Gifts is the third book in the "Birthday" series.  The first sentence in this book was one of my favorite parts, and it lured me in. "Like all big mistakes, mine started with a goat." -13 Gifts From then on, I was sold and loved this book from start to finish.  In this story, Tara is sent to live with her aunt and Uncle in the town of Willow Falls.  When she gets there her cousin introduces her to some friends, and they become a group.  Rory who is constantly losing her phone, Leo and Amanda who for some reason don't talk out loud to each other and instead communicate with chalkboards tied around their necks, and David who is called Bee Boy by Amanda.  When Tara runs into an antique dealer named Angelina D'Angelo, she must collect certain items before her thirteenth birthday or Tara's secret will be revealed.  At first, Tara tries to collect the items by herself, but soon her friends find out what she's doing, although not why she doing it.  Dav...

Finally by Wendy Mass

This is the second book in the "Birthdays" series by Wendy Mass.  Or maybe it's less of a series and more a bunch of spin-off books??  I'll call it a series for now. The first book is 11 Birthdays.  Now we have Finally, which is about a girl who is finally turning twelve.  All her life, Rory has been told by her parents "you can do this when you're twelve" or "you can get that when you're twelve".  When you're twelve, when you're twelve. Now the time has come, and Rory is turning twelve.  And she has a long list of stuff to check off.  Get a pet.  Shave her legs.  Get a cell phone.  Replace her glasses with contacts.  Pierce her ears.  Etc., etc.  The timing is perfect, because a movie is being filmed at Rory's school and the director is looking for students to be extras.  When Rory is chosen to be in the film, she and her friend decide to cross off one thing on her list.  Shaving her legs.  While shopping...

11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass

11 Birthdays is the story of Leo and Amanda.  Leo and Amanda were born on the same day, in the same hospital.  Their relatives were the best of friends, except for one fight.  After their parents meet in the hospital and with some prompting from Angelina D'Angelo, Leo and Amanda have had every birthday together for 9 years.  Last year, for their tenth birthday though, Leo and Amanda were having a party and Amanda overheard Leo tell some of his friends that he only hung out with her because his parents made him.  After that, Amanda never talked to Leo again.  It was the biggest fight they've ever had, and it's lasted for a whole year.  With their eleventh birthday approaching fast, Amanda wishes she had never heard Leo say those things.  Then, on the day of her eleventh birthday, almost everyone goes to Leo's party and not Amanda's.  He even has a hypnotist.  A pile of presents mysteriously appears on her doorstep later that night, and af...

Author: Wendy Mass

Wendy Mass is one of my favorite authors!  I read one of her books in like sixth grade and forgot about it until I found another book by her in seventh grade.  Turns out they were a series, but I read them in the wrong order.  In eighth grade, I got the two books again and read them in the right order.  Then I read them again.  This year, I found another book!  So I got all three of them and re-read them!   Wendy Mass reminds us of the magic of friends, birthdays, what we want and what we need, and many other valuable lessons.  Each of her books about Willow Falls are covered in magic and mystery, all of them connected by the characters and especially Angelina D'Angelo. I blogged about Wendy Mass' books: 11 Birthdays Finally 12 13 Gifts
