The Spark Between Us by Stacy Travis

Sarah and Braden are so cute!  Sparks are definitely flying between these two new roommates, and their chemistry is undeniable. 


I do think some more dimension could have been added to the characters - Braden’s personality is essentially a caring firefighter dog-dad while Sarah’s is genius workaholic and good cook.  However, it works for them and while readers primarily know only surface trivia about these two, we do deal with some of their deeper issues as well. I do with the author had dug a little further into their shared childhood - as Sarah’s brother’s best friend, I think Braden should have been a little more memorable and would have loved some interplay with that. 


Forced proximity is a favorite romance trope, and roommates just takes it up another level, so I was totally on-board with this story. I also really enjoyed how neither Braden or Sarah were what the other was expecting!  When they finally give in to the tension between them and fan the sparks into flames … it gets hot. But they also get to spend time with each other, and adding Bella into the mix just frames them in the picture of domesticity. Overall a great romance read!

 Thank you to Social Butterfly PR and Erin Hawkins for sending me an e-ARC of this book to read and review!  As always, this review is my honest opinion and can be found on my Goodreads profile as well as this blog. This story is great and the chemistry between Barrett and Chloe is a delight!  Enemies-to-lovers and fake dating are always a great combination of tropes and Erin Hawkins writes them very well. Even when we as readers have an inkling or two of how this is going to turn out in the end (it is a romance, after all), it feels fresh and exciting as we get to know the characters, their motivations, and the personalities that make them click so well.   I am a big character-driven reader and I really enjoyed reading both Chloe and Barrett's perspectives.  These character have dimensions that lend more  to  the story than just the romance, while also being delightfully attracted to each other and keeping the romance part of the book  adequately  spiced. Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater

Disney, bold & brave, magical 5 stars As a huge fan of Maggie Stiefvater’s, I was to excited to receive an ARC of Bravely from Disney Books on NetGalley. After reading it I can confidently say I cannot imagine another author who would have done justice to the continuation of Merida’s story.   “Red hair, keen eyes, quick brain, built to start fires but not to put them out.” - Prologue, p. xiii Stiefvater writes in such a way that magic is an intrinsic part of every story, even when it is not fully present.  The imagery is vivid, the emotions are strong, the plot is easy to follow yet hard to predict. As Merida makes a bet with gods of old and takes on the challenge of changing her family before destruction comes for DunBroch, readers get sucked into a story about family and nature, growth and magic.  This story is also an amazing continuation of the Disney/Pixar film Brave. The wild triplets are grown boys now, with their personalities expanded and separate from each other. Fergus
