Happy New Year!!  Thanks for reading my blog this last year!  I didn't blog as much as I would have wanted last year, so one of my New Year's resolutions is to blog at least once a week.  :) HAPPY NEW YEAR!  ~laila

11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass

11 Birthdays is the story of Leo and Amanda.  Leo and Amanda were born on the same day, in the same hospital.  Their relatives were the best of friends, except for one fight.  After their parents meet in the hospital and with some prompting from Angelina D'Angelo, Leo and Amanda have had every birthday together for 9 years.  Last year, for their tenth birthday though, Leo and Amanda were having a party and Amanda overheard Leo tell some of his friends that he only hung out with her because his parents made him.  After that, Amanda never talked to Leo again.  It was the biggest fight they've ever had, and it's lasted for a whole year.  With their eleventh birthday approaching fast, Amanda wishes she had never heard Leo say those things.  Then, on the day of her eleventh birthday, almost everyone goes to Leo's party and not Amanda's.  He even has a hypnotist.  A pile of presents mysteriously appears on her doorstep later that night, and after that, Amanda decides she

Author: Wendy Mass

Wendy Mass is one of my favorite authors!  I read one of her books in like sixth grade and forgot about it until I found another book by her in seventh grade.  Turns out they were a series, but I read them in the wrong order.  In eighth grade, I got the two books again and read them in the right order.  Then I read them again.  This year, I found another book!  So I got all three of them and re-read them!   Wendy Mass reminds us of the magic of friends, birthdays, what we want and what we need, and many other valuable lessons.  Each of her books about Willow Falls are covered in magic and mystery, all of them connected by the characters and especially Angelina D'Angelo. I blogged about Wendy Mass' books: 11 Birthdays Finally 12 13 Gifts

Confessions of a Not-It Girl by Melissa Kantor

Jan Miller feels like she is living in the shadow of her best friend, who is an official It-Girl on the cover of every magazine, thanks to Jan's mom.  Jan can't get a date or get a grip.  She babbles around her crush, and college applications are stressing her out!  Jan wishes she could write a play of how her life should be.  All through the book she narrates her scenes, overlapping them with reality.  Sometimes though, all a Not-It girl has to do is make the first move. This is such a great book!  I say that about a lot of books, but it's true!  Melissa Kantor strikes again!

Into the Wild Nerd Yonder: My life on the Dork Side by Julie Halpern

Jessie's sophomore year isn't working out so well.  Her brother is a punk and her best friends transform themselves into punks so Jessie's brother lets them hang with his band.  Jessie is a self proclaimed mathelete, and she needs new friends.  But when her quest brings her to the Dungeons and Dragons crowd, she needs to decide if she wants nerd friends.  Meanwhile, her brother has decided to un-punk himself to get ready for college.  He teases Jessie about her 'nerd herd' friends and she takes something he says the wrong way.  Not to mention her nerdy crush on one of the D&D boys.  Is Jessie turning into a nerd? (Sorry this is so short!)

Author: Melissa Kantor

Melissa Kantor's books are so far really good.  I've only read two, but I have another one requested at the library which I will hopefully get soon.  Melissa writes like she knows all this from experience (maybe she does), and her characters are easy to relate to.  You can easily put yourself in their place, or just imagine living their lives.  I really love authors like that.  Plus, there is drama, and suspense in her books.  Not like mystery book type, but like OH MY GOSH WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT!! type.  Her books aren't easily put down!  She's a great author and I hope I get to read more of her books soon.

Christmas books

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to read books with hot cocoa all day, hey! So, sometimes this month or last, I forget exactly when, I went to the library.  Maybe you read my post  After a Recent Trip to the Library...  and you already knew this.  In any case, I went.  And as it just so happens, since it has now been December for officially five days, I figured I am allowed to start reading Christmas stories.  One of them is a classic little chapter book called: The Christmas Doll and it's by Elvira Woodruff.  I haven't read it yet, but I'll type up the back cover of the book for you in case I don't get to read it until after Christmas. "Lucy and Glory Wolcott are sisters and the best of friends.  They have no one but each other to rely on.  They have little to eat and their nights are cold and damp.  To keep their spirits up, Lucy invents stories about a family she barely remembers--and a lost doll named Morning Glory who Lucy

Eggs by Jerry Spinelli

'He spoke to the beautiful face. "Are you sleeping?"  The eyes did not open.  He could not decide if he wanted them to open.  The humped eyelids with their glittery purple were like tiny twin eggs, bird's eggs.  "Are you going to say something?"  The mouth did not move.  "You're dead, aren't you?"  The beautiful face was as still as the trees.  He was not afraid.'  - Inside front cover of Eggs by Jerry Spinelli Eggs is the story of 9 year old David and 13 year old Primrose.  After a very strange first meeting in the woods at an Easter egg hunt, David and Primrose gravitated towards each other.  Primrose constantly teases David, and they say they hate each other, but they tell each other secrets and go on adventures together.  David's mother died, and his father is at work all the time.  He never breaks any rules, except his grandma's.  He lives with his grandma, but her rules don't count.  She's trying to

After a Recent Trip to the Library...

I went to the library a couple days ago and picked up a bunch of books.  Some of them, I've already blogged about.  Some of them I plan to blog about in the near future.  But in the meantime, I'm going to do a quick rating of some of the books, that has the title and author of the book, and then what I give it on a scale of 1- 10. Gert Gerbaldi's Rants and Raves: One Butt Cheek at a Time by Amber Kizer (4) This was a kind of weird book, not quite like the ones I'm used to reading, but still pretty good.  Probably for around ages 14 and up. If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's my Prince by Melissa Kantor (7) Good book, to see a full review of it, scroll down! Around 10-12 and up Lemonade Mouth by Mark Hughes (8) Awesome book!  Scroll down for details! Ages 12 and up Into the Wild Nerd Yonder: My Life on the Dork Side by Julie Halpern (6) Full review coming soon! 12 and up Confessions of a Not-It Girl by Melissa Kantor (6) Full review in progress,

If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince by Melissa Kantor

Lucy Norton is convinced her life is bad.  Like Cinderella-before-the-bibbitty-bobbity-boo.  In fact, there is a lot of similarities between Lucy and Cinderella.  Cinderella's mother died, so did Lucy's.  They both have wicked stepmothers, and two evil stepsisters.  Unfortunately, Cinderella gets Prince Charming.  Lucy has a crush on the 'prince' of the varsity basketball team, Connor Pearson.  He doesn't know anything about her though, other than her name.  But what did Prince Charming know about Cinderella except her shoe size? In school, Lucy is kinda a loner.  Once, in her art class, she tried to make friends with a boy who was a really good artist.  His name is Sam Wolff, and when she compliments his paintings, he says thanks,  but it's more of a could-you-possibly-crawl-back-into-whatever-hole-you-came-from-and-stop-bothering-me sort of thanks.  Then one day her popularity status is changed when she sits down at an empty table.  The popular girls, Jessica

Writing Books

Hi!  Today for school I have creative writing, and for my teacher/mom that basically translates into writing stories, or books.  I love writing as much as I love reading, but it is really hard to write a book that I think I would want to read if I hadn't written it, if that makes sense.  It's hard to make the story interesting, without making it so busy that there's no dialogue.  It's hard to make sure you don't leave out characters.  It is hard for me to include parents in my stories, because so far all my kids are running away from evil step-parents, or they are orphans trying to bring back a lost kingdom, or something of the sort.  Have any of you tried writing a book and thought it was harder than it looks?  Got any writing tips?  Here's one, test it out.  If it's a book for your age group, have one of your friends or family members in that age group read it.  Let them criticize, or praise it, and listen to what they say.  I think it would help.  (Maybe

Happy Turkey Day!!!

Dear readers, Happy Thanksgiving!  I am thankful for everyone who even looks at this blog, because without you guys I wouldn't have continued blogging.  Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving! I just really quickly want to share with you guys a book I think of every time I think of Thanksgiving.  It's called the Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare.  I think this is a good Thanksgiving book because the characters always stay thankful for what they have even when they don't have much.  They go through flooding, losing family members, being accused of being witches, and still find things to be thankful for.  Thank you so much. ~laila

Lemonade Mouth by Mark Peter Hughes

Some of you might have heard of the Disney Channel movie called Lemonade Mouth.  Well, this is the book.  I really like the movie, and the songs, and I like the book too.  In my opinion, the book is pretty much the same as the movie.  Of course, the book has more details. Lemonade Mouth tells the story of five freshman in high school who all get detention on the same day and thanks to a dental commercial with a catchy tune and the school's music teacher, they form a band. Wen plays the trumpet, Mo is on bass, Stella plays guitar/ukulele, Charlie is on drums, and shy Olivia sings.  Of course, the band has trouble starting up at first but with the music teachers help and Stella's determination, they do just fine.  Lemonade Mouth earns it name before the first performance, and are banned from the school after it.  Thankfully, they manage to keep going and become something of role model to the kids in school who are always getting picked on or told that they aren't cool.  That

Middle School Books

Hi!  I was going through my bibliographies and came across some books I really liked as a middle schooler. First is a trilogy by Laura Anne Gilman.  It's called Grail Quest and it's about three unlikely friends, a squire, a servant girl, and a stable boy, who have to break a spell, find the Holy Grail, and defeat a Shadow.  The trilogy is set in the times of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and of course Merlin is in there too.  The first book is called the Camelot Spell, the second is Morgain's Revenge, and the last book is the Shadow Companion.  I really liked these books and still sometimes get them out of the library to re-read them! Next is a book called The Sisters Club by Megan McDonald.  It is really funny and tells the story of three sisters who have a club, obviously.  Alex is the oldest and she wants to be an actress, Joey is the youngest and she loves homework and wants to be a pioneer.  In the middle is Stevie and she is like the vanilla in bet

The Drifting by L. Filloon

Okay, so I am so so so so glad I got to buy this book like right once it came out.  The Drifting is the sequel to The Binding, which is one of my favorite books. The Drifting brings you further into the story of Lily and Tharin.  At the end of The Binding, Lily and Tharin are separated from each other when Tharin's less known brother kidnaps Lily.  Tharin vows that the next time he sees his brother Ziri, he will kill him.  In the beginning of The Drifting, Lily is with her captor, and when some bandits come near, Ziri injects Lily with something that knocks her out.  When she wakes up, she has no idea where she is and tries to escape.  She is stopped before she gets very far though, and realizes that she may not be in danger..from her captors.  One of them is a lady she was briefly acquainted with, and she assures Lily that no harm will come to her unless she leaves.  Ziri and the lady, Sema, try to train her in combat and her powers that she gets from her mother.  The first coupl

The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

I admit, I saw the movie before I read the book.  I didn't like the movie.   I loved the book .  Although the movie is like exactly the same dialogue and everything, I like being able to "hear" the characters thoughts.   It adds detail to the story and helps you understand the characters more. This book is about Ronnie aka Veronica Miller.  Her parents are divorced, and this summer Ronnie and her little brother have to stay with their dad.  Their dad was a concert pianist and also piano teacher.  He taught Ronnie how to play.  She doesn't play anymore and even though her dad doesn't pressure her, Ronnie is convinced he only wants her there to play the piano.  Rebellious and resentful, Ronnie threatens constantly to leave.  Until she sees a raccoon sniffing around a turtle nest.  From then on, her life pretty much revolves around that nest.  And when Will, a volunteer at the aquarium who ran into her and made her spill soda down her shirt, comes by and sees she

Forget-Her-Nots by Amy Brecount White

Have you ever heard of the language of flowers?  Laurel has, and she can use flowers in magic ways.  She gave her teacher some flowers for finding love, and her teacher is getting married not long after.  As long as Laurel says the magic words and feels a tingle, her flowers can do anything.  Iris ~ Message, Ivy ~ Marriage, Lily of the Valley ~ Return of Happiness, and lots more.  Every flower has a meaning.  Laurel makes those meanings become reality.  Sometimes she gets it wrong, like when she accidentally uses basil, a lot.  And if one person doesn't actually have feelings for the one with the flowers, then the effect of roses won't last.  Not to mention her flowers can't always work when she uses them for herself.  Can Laurel find a way to solve all her problems while helping other people solve theirs with flowers? "Bright cut flowers, leaves of green, bring about what I have seen."

The Cardturner by Louis Sachar

Image
I really thought that was an interesting title.   The Cardturner .  I had no idea what I was in for when I took this book off the shelves at the library.  This is a really great book and even though I couldn't understand most of the parts about bridge, the story was amazing.  I hope you read it and like it! Image courtesy of Google Alton has a rich uncle who likes to play bridge.  His uncle, who he's only met once when he was five, is also blind.  When his uncle's housekeeper, Mrs. Mahoney, calls asking Alton if he will be his uncle's cardturner, he has no idea what that means.  After a brief conversation with his uncle in which he learned that it didn't matter he didn't know how to play bridge, it was settled that he would take his "favorite uncle" as his mom always said, to his bridge club.  Apparently, Toni Castaneda was his Uncle Lester Trapp's old cardturner.  And one day, when Lester Trapp told her which card to play, Toni said "Ar

Author: Heather Vogel Frederick

The main reason I love Heather Vogel Frederick's books so much is that it's really easy for me to see myself as one of the characters.  I can relate to most of the problems (I say most because I have never had to spit up frogs), and the stories always have little surprises.  Heather Vogel Frederick's The Mother Daughter Book Club series is well written and packed with adventures, books, and mischief.  Once I finish one of these books I always go right to the library website and request whichever book the girls were reading in their book club.  Most of them, I had already read, but after the book club girls talked about the books and described their favorite part, I wanted to know what they were talking about and tell them my favorite part!  I like how Ms. Frederick tells you about the books and their authors in her books, and even includes Fun Facts throughout the stories. In Once Upon a Toad, there is lots of twists and turns and toads.  Heather makes you feel sorry for

Embrace by Jessica Shirvington

Embrace is a story about angels, exiled, souls, Soles, and a seventeen year old girl named Violet Eden.  On her seventeenth birthday, and the seventeenth anniversary of her mother's death, Violet doesn't really feel like celebrating. The day before her birthday, one of her best friends and the boy she has a crush on, Lincoln, lets her paint his wall.  The giant wall in his warehouse that she's wanted to paint forever, that is.  But Linc is acting kinda weird, especially when she tells him she plans on painting some sort of representation of good keeping evil away.  And then during her birthday dinner, when she bumps into a random stranger, Licoln acts like it was a serious crime.  She finds out why the next day when she accidentally overhears him say that he is not completely human.  And apparently she isn't either.  Finding out you're half angel can kinda be a shock for anyone.  To be more specific, Violet is a Grigori, part angel-part human, and the angelic part

Pilgrims Don't Wear Pink by Stephanie Kate Strohm

Libby Kelting is a history nerd.  Which is why she's going to live at Camden Harbor in the Museum of Maine and the Sea, where it's always 1791.  The only thing is that Libby is totally into fashion.  Short-shorts, high heels, lots of makeup, and can't live without her cell phone.  So she is totally horrified when she has to wear a uniform whenever she isn't in her 1800's costume because khaki shorts and a aquamarine polo T-shirt are so not cute.  Plus, there is no makeup or cell phones!!  And Libby needs to impress, because this place has totally cute boys, mainly Cameron, the super cute Squaddie who chops the wood for her wood stove and climbs ropes on ships all day.  Thankfully, she manages to acquire some saucy 1800's gowns instead of sackcloth dresses, and improvises on the makeup.  Beets and ash are perfect for blush, lipstick, and eyeshadow.  As for the cell phone... well, she has to sneak that into her costume.  Her best friend, Dev, wouldn't survive

Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan

Okay, so I got the book, I read the book, I loved the book.  I really don't want to give to much spoilers, but there isn't much I can do to stop myself.  The Mark of Athena starts with Annabeth and a giant warship.  The Greek and Roman demi-gods meet and manage to avoid killing each other, until Leo goes crazy and fires on Camp Jupiter and that pretty much starts a war.  Percy and Annabeth are re-united briefly before they have to jump aboard the Argo 2, Leo's awesome war ship, to avoid the angry Roman demi-gods.  The nice Roman demi-gods, Jason, Hazel and Frank, jump aboard the Argo 2 as well, and the seven questers get out of there as fast as possible.  After trying, and failing, to figure out why Leo went crazy, they get some supplies to repair the ship, Leo starts a fan club of nymphs before they realize that they don't like Leo, Hazel and Leo meet Nemesis the goddess of revenge, and Echo the girl cursed to always repeat the last thing she hears, all while the other

Author: Rick Riordan

I think that it's pretty obvious that I am totally OBSESSED with Rick Riordan's books.  I admire his writing style and his ideas.  All of his stories have details that are easy to overlook the first - or even fifth - time reading, but eventually I catch on to more and more. I have blogged about Rick's books on many occasions, the links which you can find: here  with the first 3 books of the PJO series here with the 4th book here with the 5th book The 1st book of Heroes of Olympus can be found here I did not blog about the second book of Heroes of Olympus for some reason (must have gotten lost somewhere on my to-do list).  But the rest of the books are available. New Books! I can't wait!

Image
Well, I had a whole bunch of Halloween-ish books that I was going to blog about, but I completely forgot!  Sorry!  So I guess I will tell you about all the recently released or soon to be released books that I want to read/am reading/read. Book #1:  The Maelstrom by Henry H. Neff  (Released Oct. 23, 2012) I haven't said anything about these books yet, but The Maelstrom is the fourth book in the Tapestry series.  In my opinion, this series is a little bit of Harry Potter, a little bit of Percy Jackson, and a whole lot of awesome!!  The main character of the series is Max McDaniels.  Max is visiting a museum one day and finds an alcove that wasn't there before.  Inside is a Celtic tapestry.  As Max watches, the pictures on the tapestry start moving.  A couple days later, he gets a visit from a scout who is checking to see if Max has the potential to attend Rowan Academy.  He has amazing abilities that he never knew about and they are going to get put to the test when Max arriv

Hey, lets chat!

So, here we are, sitting down at our computers eating tea and crumpets and chatting with a blog.  Weird right?  By the way, what are crumpets?  Anyway, I have just realized that I'm doing all the reading ad typing on this blog.  You guys do know you can comment, right?  Even if you don't particularly have anything to say.  Tell me about a book you're reading, or a movie you're watching, or what you ate for breakfast!  I had Cream of Wheat for breakfast, it tasted great.  See, that wasn't so bad was it?  Um, well no, but it was weird.  Oh well, I tried.  I'm talking to myself again!  Back to the books...

MARK OF ATHENA!!!! AAAAHHHH!!

For all of the people out there who have read the Percy Jackson series, The Kane Chronicles, and (or) the Heroes of Olympus (series in progress) by Rick Riordan, the Mark of Athena comes out in three days.  THREE DAYS!!  I am so excited!!  I have been waiting forever (a year!) for this book to come out!  It is the third book in the Heroes of Olympus series. The HOO series is like Percy Jackson continued.  In the first book, Rick Riordan introduces three new characters, Jason, Piper, and Leo.  If you haven't read the books, I don't want to spoil anything, but I have to say, Leo is awesome!! He is totally crazy!!  Plus his "demi-god gift" is totally awesome!!  Plus, he gets a magic tool belt!  Piper is purposely not pretty.  She hates attention.  Especially since her dad is a famous movie star and gets tons of attention.  Her PBJ sandwiches have sparklers in them as toothpicks.  Seriously.  Jason is an amnesiac.  He has no clue where he is, how he got there, and he esp

The Binding by L. Filloon

Image
I am totally obsessed with The Binding.  Ever since Christmas, when I got my Kindle, I've been reading a lot more books, but I forget to blog about them!  That's what happened with The Binding.  I've read it at least five times, and I think I like it better than Harry Potter.  "Gasp!"  The Binding is a story about Lily Michaels and Tharin Lunar.  Lily doesn't know it, but she's about to discover that she's part elf.  Two nights after her eighteenth birthday, Lily is going for a run when she is knocked over by a stranger, who just saved her from being hit by an arrow.  When Lily sees who's shooting at her, she can't believe it.  It's her brother, and he disappeared four years ago.  The stranger deflects all the arrows and gets rid of her brother, Lucas, but not before he shoots an arrow straight at Lily that the stranger can't reach.  Lily knows she's going to die, but she doesn't care.  She just lost her brother, again.  But rig

Author: James Dashner

I think I already mentioned some of James Dashner's books a while ago, mainly the Maze Runner Trilogy.  I loved the books, but didn't try to see if the author had written any other books.  Unfortunately, I usually don't pay much attention to the author unless I'm looking up a book online or at the library.  This year I figured out that if you know the author and liked the books, you can look them up and they usually have a blog about themselves and what they are writing.  Amazing!  :)  Anyway, I've been doing that with a lot of my favorite authors lately, but I didn't think about looking up James Dashner once I finished reading the Maze Runner.  I just stored away the bits I needed: it was a good book, it was written by James Dashner.  So I was really surprised when I was browsing my local library and pulled and interesting book off the shelf.  It was called The Thirteenth Reality: The Journal of Curious Letters (points for an awesome title) and it's about a

Author: Meg Cabot

I just got a few of Meg Cabot's books from the library!  She is a great author!  Her books I've read include: Airhead- a book about a regular girl named Emma Watts who has a terrible accident and when she wakes up, everything is really different.  Her voice for one.  And the people who visit her in the hospital.  Why would super stars come to see her?  Then, she finds out that her brain was transplanted into a super models body!  Now she has no choice but to continue to pretend to be Nikki or else the company that sponsored the transplant, Stark Enterprises, will do something horrible to her family.  And the worst part?  She can't tell her best friend Christopher, who she might have a little crush on. Being Nikki- This is the second book about Emma Watts and it tells about her life as a super model.  Emma is starting to be convinced that the real Nikki didn't fall over at the same time as her accident because of a brain problem.  It might have been Stark, trying to

What am I reading right now?

Right now I am reading The Path of Daggers, which is a series book.  Actually, it's the eighth book in the series The Wheel of Time, and I'm not actually reading it.  I kind of stopped in the middle of the book and picked up a different one. So I read The Maze Runner by James Dashner and also the sequel to it, The Scorch Trials.  I'm waiting for the last book, The Death Cure, to come in from the library, so I can finally read it.  The books are kind of like the Hunger Games ( I love the Hunger Games books !!!!) in the way that boys are sent into this Maze and they have to survive.  Oh and their memories have been wiped, there is no way to get out of the Maze that they have found in two years, and when the last boy, Thomas, comes up, everything starts to get weird, including the first girl ever to come up from, well... wherever it is they come from.  In the Scorch Trials they have to survive in a area that keeps getting hit with sun flares, heating up the area, and giving e

Author: Hilari Bell

I love Hilari Bell's books!!  I have read a lot of them and they are about magic and kings and queens and always packed with adventure!  The first of her books that I've ever read is The Shield of Stars which is the first book of a trilogy.  The second is The Sword of Waters , and the final book in the trilogy is The Crown of Earth.   Some of her other books I've read are: The Wizard Test , The Goblin Wood (also the first book of a trilogy, or series, but I haven't read the others yet), Trickster's Girl , The Prophecy , The Last Knight (first book of a series), Rogue's Home (second book of the knight series), Player's Ruse (third book of the knight series). My favorite book of hers is definitely The Goblin Wood , which is about a hedgewitch named Makenna, who's mother was killed by the people in her village because they thought she was a demon, so Makenna left the village and went to live in the woods by the Goblin Wall, a wall designed to keep gob

Inkheart

I love these books!  Cornelia Funke brings the Inkworld to life in the fabulous Inkheart Trilogy.  In the first book, Inkheart, Meggie Folchart and her father Mortimer - known as Mo, or to some as Silvertongue, are visited by a mysterious figure, who somehow knows Mo.  But Meggie has never seen the strange man before.  Who is he?  And how does he know her father.  Eavesdropping in on their conversation, Meggie discovers that the stranger's name is Dustfinger, and he has come to warn her father about a man named Capricorn.  Mo packs up and, along with Meggie and Dustfinger, leaves their little house to, as he says, visit Meggie's aunt.  Meggie refuses to go until she knows why.  And that's when she learns about the Inkworld.  Since her father won't tell her, she learns from Dustfinger how Mo read Dustfinger, Capricorn, and one of Capricorn's henchmen named Basta, out of a book called Inkheart.  Mo has the power to read people and objects out of books.  And now Capric

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

I just finished reading all the books that I know of that are in this series, which is 7 total, and I loved them!! Artemis Fowl is a criminal mastermind, and he's only, like, 12!  During one of his schemes, Artemis captures a fairy, or to be more specific, a LEP recon (Leprechaun, get it?) officer, the only female officer in the whole underground fairy world.  A kidnapped fairy is no joke, and Artemis Fowl is the most wanted criminal in fairyland, which is all high-tech and top secret, not sugar plumbs and candy land.  Going up against the best officers in the LEP, Artemis proves just how smart he is.  He demands a lot of fairy gold as a ransom, and is put under attack as soon as the fairies send the gold in.  Not really feeling very threatened, Artemis boasts that he knows how to survive the high-powered explosion the fairies want to send at Fowl Manor.  Boasts or not, Artemis compromises and sends out the fairy gold with the fairy he kidnapped, who's name,  by the way, is Hol

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Book 5

Hey, sorry it's been so long since I've put up a new post!! The last book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is titled The Last Olympian.   Percy Jackson and the camp on Half-Blood Hill have been preparing for a gigantic battle against the Titan lord, Kronos, who's army is stronger than ever.  Meanwhile, the gods of Mount Olympus are busy battling a monster called Typhon who is destroying everything in his path on the journey to New York City, where the modern Mount Olympus sits unguarded on top of the Empire State Building.  With the gods away it's up to Percy Jackson and friends to protect Mount Olympus from Kronos and his army.  Percy takes charge of all the demigods at Camp Half-Blood and sets up a battle plan to guard Manhattan, but it's going to be tricky.  The Ares campers are out of the fight, and without the support of the half-blood children of the Greek god of war, how are they supposed to win?  They have just enough campers to block off all t
