Sweet by Elizabeth Hunter

Image
Thank you to Social Butterfly PR and Elizabeth Hunter for sending me an e-ARC of this book to read and review!   Daisy Rivera is small-town Metlin’s golden child, and she has the biggest crush on the mysterious former-gang member tattoo artist known as Spider. Spider’s past keeps him from putting down roots anywhere, but Daisy is ready to claim him as a member of the Metlin family… as long as his past doesn’t catch up to him first.  This book delivers exactly what the title promises - a sweet romance. But life isn’t all cherry pie and butterflies for these two. Total opposites, Spider and Daisy have a few roadblocks to overcome as they figure out what they want and what it will be worth.  I sped through this story!  Told in alternating point of views, I liked being able to know what was going on in the main character’s minds as they came to terms with their attraction, seeing the events that lead them together, and knowing their motives for the ultimate decisions they have to make.

A Certain Appeal by Vanessa King

Pride and Prejudice meets the burlesque scene in this entirely unique retelling. Elizabeth Bennet is a stage kitten for the burlesque performances at Meryton. On a memorable night at the club, she meets Charles and Darcy and life as she knows it is changed. With her friend and roommate Jane staking a claim on Charles, Bennet sees a lot more of Darcy than she would like… or maybe not enough of him. When things begin to look up, everything comes crashing down and Bennet must decide if she wants to be brave or if she’ll follow her past mistakes.   Photo from my bookstagram @ bookworminkayla I love the setting of this retelling!   I am a sucker for Pride and Prejudice in any form but this is definitely one of my favorite adaptions.   With burlesque being a focus, there are a lot of fun characters to fill out the cast, and the extra spice that the role gives Elizabeth’s character is fabulous.   But that is not all for Miss Bennet - she does interior design and has an admin job for a tech

Head Over Hooves by Erin Nicholas

Thank you to Social Butterfly PR and Erin Nicholas for sending me an e-ARC of this book to read and review! All I want for Christmas this year is a Drew Ryan of my own!  This is the first of the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild books to not have a Landry (or Landry relative) as one of the main two characters, but it is just as good as the rest of the series.   Rory and Drew are so adorable in this cute holiday story! Rory Robins hasn’t been in Autre for long but she wants to make her mark on the community - and the Landry family.   Her chance to prove herself comes with the Santa’s Village for the Boys of the Bayou petting zoo. But it’s a lot of work for one girl to do alone, not matter how determined she is. Enter Drew Ryan, visiting Autre from Appleby, Iowa. He is hoping to have a fun weekend in Louisiana, ditching his “nice guy” reputation for once, but doing so means fighting his instinct to help Rory.   Rory has a set of rules for her next relationship, and Drew breaks Rule 1: Must Li

Thank you to Social Butterfly PR and Sarah Ready for sending me an e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!  I loved the first three Soul Mates in Romeo books and was so excited to read this one. Below is my review, which can also be found on my Goodreads .  To see the blog posts for the rest of the series, click for book 1 , book 2 , and book 3 . The fourth book of the Soul Mates in Romeo series is a second-chance romance full of misunderstandings.  When she arrives in Romeo, Emma is told she will meet her soulmate within the week, but Emma knows her soulmate died ten years ago. Or at least, she thinks he did. On the other hand, Andrew has spent the past five years thinking Emma betrayed him and goes to Romeo to take her down once and for all. In this small town in New York, these two have a lot of surprises in store for them as the truths (and hopefully the treasure) come to light.   Photo from my bookstagram - @bookworminkayla Soulmates are my jam, and the way Emma and

Below are my honest thoughts, which can also be found on my Goodreads .  Add me on Goodreads for a first look at all my reviews! Naomi and Donovan are the stars of the newest Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series, and these two shine bright. Child sitcom star Naomi LeClaire has gone and quietly fallen in love with daring animal rescuer and TV show sensation Donovan Foster.  Little does she know, Donovan is halfway in love with her too… but he never stays in one place too long and has a job offer in the Galápagos Islands tempting him away. When a kiss between these two goes viral, the chance for a TV show in Autre starring Naomi and Donovan is a chance to keep him in Louisiana… and her life. But is Naomi really willing to do what it takes?   And is Donovan willing to settle down? Photo from my bookstagram - @ b

Jingle Bell Hell by Denise Grover Swank and A.R. Casella

Thank you to Social Butterfly PR and the authors for sending me an e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!   As always, the thoughts expressed below are my honest opinions and this review can also be found on my Goodreads account. Opposites attract in this holiday romance featuring the uptight single mom Mary and the ex-con construction worker Jace.  In her own mini version of the Bad Luck Club, Mary is encouraged to break out of her shell, and Jace is more than happy to feature in her personal challenges. While this romance is amazing the star of this book for me was the relationship between Mary’s son, Aidan, and Jace. The two are paired together with the Butterfly Buddies program for children on the spectrum.   Jace’s approach to Aidan is so unexpected from the description of his character - tattooed construction worker and ex-con - but it really works so well and their interactions are heart-warming as the story goes on.   I also love the friendship between Mary and

The Spark Between Us by Stacy Travis

Thank you to Social Butterfly PR for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.  All thoughts are my own and the review below can also be found on my Goodreads .  Sarah and Braden are so cute!    Sparks are definitely flying between these two new roommates, and their chemistry is undeniable.  I do think some more dimension could have been added to the characters - Braden’s personality is essentially a caring firefighter dog-dad while Sarah’s is genius workaholic and good cook.    However, it works for them and while readers primarily know only surface trivia about these two, we do deal with some of their deeper issues as well. I do with the author had dug a little further into their shared childhood - as Sarah’s brother’s best friend, I think Braden should have been a little more memorable and would have loved some interplay with that.  Forced proximity is a favorite romance trope, and roommates just takes it up another level, so I was totally on-board with this s
