Will They or Won’t They by Ava Wilder

I received an e-ARC of this book from Random House Publishing Group on NetGalley. All thoughts expressed below are my own honest opinions. 


Lilah and Shane have had a lots of ups and downs - mostly downs - in their relationship (both personal and professional). Every time they attempt to finally get back together, it seems something gets in the way - even when that something is themselves. I love getting to know them as individuals as we slowly learn their backstory together and the different ways they view their acting job. Their past is holding them back from the potential of a future, and to reach this realization they have to dig deep inside themselves. 


Despite all the back and forth, the author’s writing is compelling and I never felt bored by the story - there is always a new element or focus. I like that the story continues to move forward, rather than stalling out as the couple tries to figure out what they want; there is potential for this type of tale to get boring but instead Ava Wilder keeps readers interested. 


There were a few moments when “will they or won’t they” felt a little more like “please don’t”; Lilah and Shane both made mistakes in their relationship and it would be easy to call it toxic and take the out. But as they focus on their careers at the very end of the line, they start to move forward in other ways. And healthy depictions of therapy deserves some credit as well!


Overall, this is a romance depicting a rocky relationship and showing that sometimes love takes a lot more work than as seen on TV.

This story is great and the chemistry between Barrett and Chloe is a delight!  Enemies-to-lovers and fake dating are always a great combination of tropes and Erin Hawkins writes them very well. Even when we as readers have an inkling or two of how this is going to turn out in the end (it is a romance, after all), it feels fresh and exciting as we get to know the characters, their motivations, and the personalities that make them click so well.   I am a big character-driven reader and I really enjoyed reading both Chloe and Barrett's perspectives.  These character have dimensions that lend more  to  the story than just the romance, while also being delightfully attracted to each other and keeping the romance part of the book  adequately  spiced. Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater

Disney, bold & brave, magical 5 stars As a huge fan of Maggie Stiefvater’s, I was to excited to receive an ARC of Bravely from Disney Books on NetGalley. After reading it I can confidently say I cannot imagine another author who would have done justice to the continuation of Merida’s story.   “Red hair, keen eyes, quick brain, built to start fires but not to put them out.” - Prologue, p. xiii Stiefvater writes in such a way that magic is an intrinsic part of every story, even when it is not fully present.  The imagery is vivid, the emotions are strong, the plot is easy to follow yet hard to predict. As Merida makes a bet with gods of old and takes on the challenge of changing her family before destruction comes for DunBroch, readers get sucked into a story about family and nature, growth and magic.  This story is also an amazing continuation of the Disney/Pixar film Brave. The wild triplets are grown boys now, with their personalities expanded and separate from each other. Fergus
