Series: Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott

The Alchemyst, the Magician, the Sorceress, the Necromancer, the Warlock, and the Enchantress.  Six great books filled with magic, the twins of legend, and the importance of family.  Over time, characters are added and taken away, but the main focus of the series is Sophie and Josh Newman.

The Alchemyst:
Sophie and Josh Newman are twins.  Their parents are archeologists, they are staying in San Francisco with their aunt, and they work with the Flemings.  Sophie works in a shop called The Coffee Cup, and the boss' close friend is Peri Fleming, who Sophie knows quite well.  Across the street, Josh works in Nick Fleming's bookstore.  One day, Sophie notices this strange man, dressed in a large coat in the summertime, enter Nick's bookstore, where Josh is working.  Not long after, the store explodes.  Sophie and Peri run to help, and that's how Josh and his sister end up on a crazy adventure.  The Flemings, who are actually the Flamels, are being chased by an evil magician, John Dee.  Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel believe Josh and Sophie are the twins of legend, with silver and gold auras, and plan to train the twins to help them defeat Dee and his enemies.  According to Nicholas, first they need to Awaken the twin's powers, and then teach them to master the elements.  Unfortunately, only Sophie has the chance to go through the Awakening before Dee catches up to them, leaving Josh feeling - for once -  very different and unconnected from his twin.

The Magician:
Sophie and Josh are now in Paris, thanks to the Witch of Endor.  In this city, Flamel plans on Awakening Josh and continuing to enhance Sophie's knowledge of magic.  The Immortal Niccolo Machiavelli continues to pursue the Alchemyst and the twins of legend.  Along the way, Sophie and Josh meet Mars Ultor, Joan of Arc, and several other legends.  Perenelle, stuck on Alcatraz, makes several powerful alliances, while Josh and Scacath run into a nasty evil - the Nidhogg.  It captures the Warrior Maid, and Josh bravely attempts a rescue.  Unfortunately, this results in Josh running into Dee, and the Golden Twin must make his choice.

The Sorceress:
Flamel has brought the twins to London.  He grows older every day, but knows they must master the elements.  However, Gilgamesh, Master of Water, is insane.  Along for the journey, Shakespeare and Palamedes join Sophie and Josh in their travels across the city.  Meanwhile, Perenelle is still trapped on Alcatraz, and the job of getting rid of her falls to Machiavelli, and his new partner, Billy the Kid.

The Necromancer:
Back home in San Francisco, Sophie and Josh Newman learn a big secret that leaves them wondering if they can trust anyone.  In the meantime, now both Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel are on Alcatraz, and their time is running out.  Machiavelli and Billy the Kid are told to release the monsters imprisoned on the island, but with the power of both Flamels against them, they have some difficulties.  Dr. John Dee, always one step behind, is still in London.  Dee is now an outlaw, and with nothing to lose, he plans to raise the Mother of All the Gods.  To accomplish this, he'll need a necromancer, and he has his eye on one of the twins.

The Warlock:
In San Francisco, the twins have chosen opposite sides.  One to fight with Flamel, the other to fight with John Dee and his new associate Virginia Dare.  While this battle rages on, Scacath, Joan, Saint-Germain, Palamedes, and Shakespeare are in a different realm, back in time.  They must fight to stop the ancient island of Danu Talis, where everything began, from sinking.  The end of the world is nearing, and the twins of legend are its only hope.

The Enchantress:
Nicholas and Perenelle are fighting on San Francisco with two of the greatest warriors they have ever known to stop the monsters of Alcatraz from reaching the city.  Meanwhile, nearly everyone else has gathered in the past on Danu Talis.  New alliances are made and old ones broken as the end of the world draws near.  Can Josh, Sophie, and their friends save the world?  Or will a secret plan a long time in the making conquer the bond of family and love between the twins?
