Stealing the Stars by Debra Anastasia

Thank you to Debra Anastasia and Social Butterfly PR for sending me an ARC of this book to read and review!

*Note: this book was renamed!  Previously Swimming in Sparkles, it is now Stealing the Stars.  Aside from the blog tour graphic below, all information in this blog post has been updated to reflect this change.  Thank you!

Below are my thoughts on this book!  You can also find my review on Goodreads.

Ruffian and Teddi are a most unlikely pair. Ruffian lived on the streets while Teddi threw Me Parties for people going through rough times. Ruffian has done jail time and Teddi gets the cops to give her a police escort through bad traffic. Ruffian plans to commit a crime... Teddi has no idea these plans even exist.

To kick things off in this book, Ruffian moves in to Teddi’s house thanks to Ruffian’s brother who was fostered by them previously. The two bond over ice cream at 2am and their mutual goal of helping others - including each other. Debra Anastasia sweeps you into the tale of Ruffian bonding with Teddi and trying to plan out his crime without having it hurt her in some form. And Teddi is pining over him and keeping herself busy in every way possible, trying to solve the problems of the world.

The back and forth between these characters and their completely different lives is so interesting and the contrast is a perfect set-up to the larger story at hand. Both of these characters are focused on helping others, though their methods differ. I tend to fixate on characters in books and these two really take the cake for being so compelling.  Ruffian grows and learns what it’s like to have a roof over your head and access to food and safety at all time. He shows Teddi the contrast of their lives and she includes him in her Me Parties and together they work to change their areas of the world. And as much I love these new characters, it was great to have old friends included as well (this is your PSA to read the author’s first book in this series of stand-alones, Drowning in Stars).  If you want a cute feel good story, know this one is a great choice as Teddi and Ruffian both embody the same virtues and their fierce determination to protect the people they care about is admirable.

"Debra Anastasia's writing is imaginary, dark, comedic, and the perfect sexy."

Stealing the Stars, an all-new not-to-be-missed, New Adult romance that brings you a modern day Robin Hood tale filled with emotion from Debra Anastasia is available now!

My name is Ruffian. To remember my mom, I want to change the world.

I’m going to do things wrong to make things right.

That’s okay, because I’m going to jail.

I know it.

I’ve planned for it. I was always going to end up there.

For now, I need a cover story.

A cover family.

A way to hide from the suspicion that always finds me.

Teddi Burathon is the perfect shield.

Popular, friendly, sassy. Good.

She’s everything I’m not.

And I’ll use her as a pretty distraction so no one sees me coming.

My heart is dead and I’m a bomb waiting to detonate.

Most people want to build a future.

Me?

I'm going to rob a bank.
