I LOVE a fake dating romance and this one takes the (cup)cake!  Jada is a reality tv star with an attitude and a goal of finding her place in life.  Donovan is a professional football player trying to keep his cupcakery afloat.  When these two collide, sparks fly... and keep flying as Jada and Donovan navigate working together.

Their banter kept me on the edge of my seat, and I adore when characters who act all prickly to each other start to unconsciously smooth out each other’s rough edges. Jada settles into her role and elevates it beyond her imagining, and Donovan learns to appreciate the people rather than the numbers side of running a business. While the fake dating scheme started as a way to save Jada’s reputation and keep Sugar Blitz in business, these two realize they stand more to gain from it than they ever could have imagined. 

The only thing that could have made this sweet story even sweeter is if I got to taste the deliciously-described cupcakes! I’m hoping we get August’s story next and can’t wait for more of Sugar Blitz!

This story is great and the chemistry between Barrett and Chloe is a delight!  Enemies-to-lovers and fake dating are always a great combination of tropes and Erin Hawkins writes them very well. Even when we as readers have an inkling or two of how this is going to turn out in the end (it is a romance, after all), it feels fresh and exciting as we get to know the characters, their motivations, and the personalities that make them click so well.   I am a big character-driven reader and I really enjoyed reading both Chloe and Barrett's perspectives.  These character have dimensions that lend more  to  the story than just the romance, while also being delightfully attracted to each other and keeping the romance part of the book  adequately  spiced. Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater

Disney, bold & brave, magical 5 stars As a huge fan of Maggie Stiefvater’s, I was to excited to receive an ARC of Bravely from Disney Books on NetGalley. After reading it I can confidently say I cannot imagine another author who would have done justice to the continuation of Merida’s story.   “Red hair, keen eyes, quick brain, built to start fires but not to put them out.” - Prologue, p. xiii Stiefvater writes in such a way that magic is an intrinsic part of every story, even when it is not fully present.  The imagery is vivid, the emotions are strong, the plot is easy to follow yet hard to predict. As Merida makes a bet with gods of old and takes on the challenge of changing her family before destruction comes for DunBroch, readers get sucked into a story about family and nature, growth and magic.  This story is also an amazing continuation of the Disney/Pixar film Brave.
