Book Club

Hi All!  I'm in a mother-daughter book club with a few of my neighbors, and we've been reading some interesting books.  The first one we read was A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck.  This is an awesome book!  The characters are so real and the story is very sweet!  I love the setting of the book, a small town where everybody knows everybody.  I don't want to give away the story, but I do recommend you read the book!  Everything on a Waffle by Polly Horvath is another amazing story.  The main character, Primrose, never loses faith that her parents are out on a little island, waiting to be rescued.  Everyone else in the town of Coal Harbour believes Primrose's parents are dead.  Primrose goes to an exotic adult, Miss Bowzer, whenever she needs help.  Miss Bowzer owns a restaurant called The Girl On The Red Swing, and it serves... well it serves "a little extra."  The next book we're reading, is called Riding Freedom by Pam Munoz Ryan.  I went ahead and read this already.  This book is about a girl named Charlotte who grew up in an orphanage for boys.  Charlotte runs away from the orphanage after her best friend is adopted. Changing her name to Charley and cutting off her hair, Charlotte now looks and acts just like a boy.  Keeping up her charade, Charlotte grows up with the disguise of a man.  She is completely free.  She is the first woman ever to vote, owns her own house, and works like a man by driving a stage.  No one except those closest to her know her secret.  Charlotte meets with her old friend from the orphanage again and her dream is complete.  Finally, we have Saffy's Angel.  I haven't read this book yet, but all the other books are great, so I'm suggesting this one too.  :)
