Love Next Door by Helena Hunting

Thank you to Social Butterfly PR for sending me an advanced copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Below is my review, which you can also find on Goodreads

Dillion and Donovan aka “Van” are both called back to Pearl Lake after years away. For Dillion, it’s a hometown reunion as she returns to help her family after her brother falls into trouble. For Van, it’s a return to the heavenly summers of his childhood as he comes back to his late Grammy’s cottage… right next door to Dillion’s family home. These two clash right from the beginning, but are quick to discover there is more that connects them than they first imagined.

This book starts off as enemies to lovers, although there’s a lot less enemies and a lot more lovers. I enjoyed the banter while it lasted, and the fact that it’s surly Dillion verses a (somewhat) chipper Van almost makes it more fun. The female being the grumpy one is a bit of a flip from norm, and I’m always a fan for some gender-role-reversal.

Love Next Door is also packed with intrigue - shady business, characters trying to figure out the right way forward, and PLENTY of family drama.  It gives the Dillion and Van a chance to connect and get to know each other, and keeps the reader interested and absorbed in the story. I honestly love that the focus isn’t just on the couple but also on Dillion’s brother Billy as well as what’s happening with Van’s family.

I will say it took me a while to figure out how to pronounce Dillion (like Dy-lan), and her multiple nicknames made it a little more confusing.  There were also a few parts that felt like fillers - for example Dillion’s friendships are a big focus in the beginning as she moves back but then we rarely hear from said friends. Overall though, this book is full of great writing, and the author is very detailed and descriptive.  The story is enticing, the romance is sweet, and Helena Hunting has me anxiously awaiting the next book in this series.

Love Next Door, an all-new sweet and endearing romance from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting is now live!

When Dillion Stitch left her hometown, she had no intention of going back. But when her brother gets into trouble, Dillion reluctantly agrees to return home to take her place at the family business.

Being back in Pearl Lake after all these years feels familiar, but also brings a few surprises. She’s quick to notice that someone new has shown up at the cottage next door.  Dillion gets more than an eyeful when she goes to check out the newcomer and meets Donovan “Van” Firestone—her beloved neighbor’s grandson—in all his unclothed glory.

Having gotten off to a rocky start, it’s not long before they begin bickering with each other all over town. All that back and forth inevitably sparks an undeniable attraction. But Dillion’s family has issues, Van’s family resents him, and neither Dillion nor Van feels truly at ease in the small town. For these Pearl Lake exiles, home isn’t just where the heart is—it’s where things get complicated.
