Molly O’Shea is trying to break into the world of investigative journalism and has found the perfect story to do it. Popular novel “The Bad Luck Club” has an intriguing dedication and several holes in the tale of the club. Molly is determined to find out what exactly the story is here… starting with tracking down the mysterious Cal the book is dedicated to.  Unfortunately for her, Cal is not inclined to share his story and is determined to keep his secrets. After all, the one thing the book got right is  Rule #1: Don’t talk about the Bad Luck Club.

Not quite an enemies to lovers, this is still a cute romance as Molly tries her best to get to know Cal and he tries his best to keep everything (including his heart) to himself.  I definitely got wrapped into the stories Molly discovers along the way, and unexpectedly some of the most unexpected characters became my favorites. Speaking of favorites, I absolutely adore Bear and Tina and hope to see more of them in the future books of this series.  The addition of the dogs was also quite wonderful, and Ein and Chaco are part of several delightful exchanges, which was a joy. 


I will say that as main characters, Molly and Cal were sometimes less-than-compelling, but the writing had me hooked and I found myself often needing to find out about the Bad Luck Club more than I needed to see this couple together. At one point I was even somewhat rooting against Molly (why must the guy always be the one to apologize, even when the girl is wrong?), but hold no grudges on behalf of Cal, who is my favorite of the two. 


Overall, this book was much different than I expected, but in a generally pleasantly surprising way. While Cal and Molly are quite the stereotypical romance novel couple, there are many factors that keep this book exciting and new. It also includes a sneak peek of the next book in the series, which I find myself already anticipating. Can’t wait to see where the Bad Luck Club goes next!

 Thank you to Social Butterfly PR and Erin Hawkins for sending me an e-ARC of this book to read and review!  As always, this review is my honest opinion and can be found on my Goodreads profile as well as this blog. This story is great and the chemistry between Barrett and Chloe is a delight!  Enemies-to-lovers and fake dating are always a great combination of tropes and Erin Hawkins writes them very well. Even when we as readers have an inkling or two of how this is going to turn out in the end (it is a romance, after all), it feels fresh and exciting as we get to know the characters, their motivations, and the personalities that make them click so well.   I am a big character-driven reader and I really enjoyed reading both Chloe and Barrett's perspectives.  These character have dimensions that lend more  to  the story than just the romance, while also being delightfully attracted to each other and keeping the romance part of the book  adequately  spiced. Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater

Disney, bold & brave, magical 5 stars As a huge fan of Maggie Stiefvater’s, I was to excited to receive an ARC of Bravely from Disney Books on NetGalley. After reading it I can confidently say I cannot imagine another author who would have done justice to the continuation of Merida’s story.   “Red hair, keen eyes, quick brain, built to start fires but not to put them out.” - Prologue, p. xiii Stiefvater writes in such a way that magic is an intrinsic part of every story, even when it is not fully present.  The imagery is vivid, the emotions are strong, the plot is easy to follow yet hard to predict. As Merida makes a bet with gods of old and takes on the challenge of changing her family before destruction comes for DunBroch, readers get sucked into a story about family and nature, growth and magic.  This story is also an amazing continuation of the Disney/Pixar film Brave.
